Year 3
Entering Year 3 is a critical point in your child’s education. This is the stage in which your child begins to form a like or dislike towards learning; the attitude they form at this stage tends to have an impact on their formative educational years. This is also the stage in which your child begins to develop their own work ethic, which again lasts not only throughout their school life, but life itself.
When students join us in Year 3, we endeavour to feed their natural curiosity and wonder, whilst nurturing a love of all things to do with language, especially books, reading and writing. Our key aim with our Year 3 students is to stimulate their imagination and ignite a passion for both reading for pleasure, and writing for pleasure. We do not want our students to see themselves as students, but as little readers and writers in their own right, with powerful imaginations, which just need a little help unlocking.
We enthuse our students, and in doing so, nurture a positive attitude to learning in our subject.
Although we use the national curriculum as our foundation, we are not restricted by this, allowing us to plan and teach a curriculum which covers the key skills your child requires at this stage, and also adding an element of academic rigour, so that they are able to exceed their own potential and excel past their peers.
Students who join us in Year 3 have priority booking into Year 4.
Examples of skills your child will be taught in Year 3:
- Reading comprehension skills: skimming, scanning, making predictions, drawing accurate inferences and beginning to use evidence to support their ideas.
- Creative writing skills: spelling, punctuation, grammar, vocabulary, figurative language, drafting, editing and story writing e.g.: creating fictional characters, settings and plots.
Testimonial: “Kya loved the little white ideas book you gave her so much that she wanted to write in it every day. Every week she looked forward to her English tuition lessons”.
